We are going to have a great year at Raye-Allen! We have wonderful staff, excellent parents, and students waiting to be guided onto bigger and better things. Check back often to get updates about our campus, read up on our successes, and hear the latest updates on what we are up to.

This week we have some exciting events! Thursday, PTO is having a Make and Take from 4:30-5:30. They will be decorating Christmas cookies, making reindeer dust, writing letters to Santa and other Christmas crafts. Right afterward, there is a Christmas concert for 1st and 2nd grade students. All families are welcome to stay and watch our Eagles perform! The concert will begin at 6. 
 
We have early release on Friday at 12. Please make arrangements for your student. We will return to campus January 4th. We cannot wait to see you then and hope you have a wonderful break!

Dear Raye-Allen Parents/Guardian,

It is with mixed emotions I write to tell you I will be leaving Raye-Allen Elementary School at the end of this week.  I’ve accepted a position in Central Administration at Killeen ISD.  Over the last 2 ½ years, I’ve enjoyed meeting and working with so many of you that make the Raye-Allen community great, and I know this school will continue heading in a strong, positive direction.

Fran Smetana, Temple ISD’s Director of ACE/Afterschool Programs, will serve as Raye-Allen’s Interim Principal beginning on Monday, December 12.  Mrs. Smetana comes into this position with a career in education spanning close to 30 years, including the last five years in administration. 

In addition to serving as Temple ISD’s ACE Director, Mrs. Smetana has also served as the district’s Parent Involvement Director.   Prior to that, she taught middle school math, algebra, language arts, reading, science, Elementary Education and pre-kindergarten in a number of Central Texas school districts including Salado ISD, Holland ISD and Bartlett ISD.

Mrs. Smetana has a Master’s Degree in Education, Leadership from Tarleton State University, and is excited to help our school finish this year strong.  Assistant Principal Amy Shaw-Williams and the rest of our campus administration team will remain in their current positions, to ensure a smooth transition.

We had our second Early Act First Knight Knighting Ceremony on December 1. We want to congratulate all of the children who were awarded medals for showing Discipline.

Dear Parents, 
 
Raye-Allen has a busy week ahead! Feel free to look in the calendar section for a look at the whole month of November. 
 
November 7th is Parent Conference day. This is a great opportunity for you to meet with your child's teacher and discuss your child's progress. If you have not booked a time with a teacher, please call our office and schedule a meeting.
 
Our first PTO meeting will be November 8th at 4:00 p.m. We would love for you to join us! PTO is an organization that allows parents and teachers to work together for the good of the school. 
 
November 9th 2nd 6 weeks report cards will go home. Make sure to check your child's backpack for the report card. 
 
November 10th the cafeteria will be serving a Thanksgiving luncheon. If you want to join your child, please RSVP to the cafeteria. Cost is $3.60 for adults and you will pay when you arrive. The book fair will be open during this time, so feel free to bring your child to shop after you are done eating. 
 
November 15th 3rd grade will be performing their music program at 6:00 p.m. Book Fair will be open afterwards to shop! 
 
We hope to see you at all of these events!

Dear Parents, 
 
We had a wonderful night with our Pumpkin Painting last week. It was great to see so many of our families enjoying time together with our staff. We hope to see you tonight at our Fall Festival from 5:30-7. There will be games and food! Tickets are 25 cents each and will be sold in $5 and $10 bundles. 
 
Monday October 31st is Academic Dress Up Day. Students will be able to dress up as a vocabulary word. There will be a list of words students can choose from provided by their teacher. Students must be prepared to explain and define their vocabulary word. Please note, this is not an opportunity to wear a Halloween costume. Any props or attire that is not appropriate will be taken up or you will be asked to bring a change of clothes for your  student.

 

Thank you to all who donated to the Raye-Allen Read-A-Thon. We loved being able to raise money by having our kids read!  

Our first Knighting Ceremony was October 20th and it was wonderful! Our students enjoyed being awarded for showing the trait of Citizenship. Thank you to all of the parents who participated. Thank you to Temple Rotary South for your sponsoring this program for our campus.

Dear Parents, 
 
We have started a new program called Early Act First Knight. The Temple Club of Rotary South has kindly purchase the program for our campus. EAFK focuses on 12 virtues that strengthen character. The first virtue Raye-Allen is focusing on is Citizenship. Citizenship is following all rules and directions, doing what you can to make your school a better place and caring about the feelings of others. Feel free to talk with your kids about what they are learning each day. 
 
You will also receive a letter tonight about our first Fundraiser. We are doing a Read-a-Thon. Students will have their own website where they can collect donations for reading 10 minutes a day for 10 days. They will have time set aside at school starting September 26 and ending October 7 to read for 10 minutes a day. Use the website provided on their information sheet to collect donations and the student will be able to keep 15% of money collected to buy prizes. We can't wait to see how well we do in our Read-a-Thon. Contact Melissa Clark with any questions. 254-215-5790.

Dear Parents,
 
We are so excited to start the 2016-2017 school year! We are currently getting new floors so if you need to come register your student, please come to the back of the school and enter the library through the back door. The library back door is on the other side of the basketball court behind the school. Registration will be open from 8-3.

Meet the teacher will be Thursday August, 18 from 6-7 p.m. We look forward to meeting you! Feel free to bring your school supplies. 
 
First day of school is Tuesday, August 23rd. Doors open at 7:05 and students are considered tardy at 7:45. Parents will be allowed to escort their students to the classroom only during the first week of school. 
 
This is going to be a great year and we look forward to starting the year with you!
