Raye-Allen Student Council Holds First Meeting of School Year

Raye-Allen student council members met after-school to discuss their goals as student leaders.  The members of the 2015-2016 Raye-Allen student council are 5th graders (left to right):  Aziza Tobe - vice president, Kylee Ortiz - alternate, Sidney Johnson - historian, Tiani Hall - secretary, Amber Marshall - treasurer, and Marissa Meyer - president .  Student council members campaigned last year and an election was held in May.
Gill Hollie, Raye-Allen's ACE Program Coordinator, began the student council program.  Hollie along with the 5th grade teachers are the STUCO sponsors.  This is the very first student council at Raye-Allen Elementary.
The meeting began with introductions and reminders of the roles of student council members in their school.  Mrs. Ybarra, Raye-Allen's Principal, thanked the student council members for serving as an important leadership team for their school.
Goals for the year were the primary discussion at the meeting.  Members came up with this initial list of ideas: no bullying initiative, promote Eagle character traits, level up (grades), care for school, and fundraisers to help reach goals.
At the next meeting the student council will decide which goals to work on first and their plans for reaching those specific goals.
Fundraising ideas will be reported back by members by next Wednesday, September 23.  There will be one fundraiser (TBA) at the annual Fall Festival and one more during the second semester.  Funds will be used to help Raye-Allen STUCO reach their goals.
The student leaders showed passion and determination to make an impact at their school!  Go Eagles!
